A Day in Washington

We went to Washington D.C. for just the day and met Joel there.  Pleasant ride on Amtrak, parked at Metropark, lovely feeling to be with him, just hanging out at the National Gallery (lovely small dark "cabinet" room with pictures including two great Vermeers, the Lady Writing a Letter and one of a woman with a balance.  Lots of other good stuff-- a Michelangelo David or maybe Apollo on loan from Italy, the only Leonardo on this side of the pond.  Stopped off at the National Portrait Gallery.   We had coffee with Phil and Jan and Daniel and met Sean.  And back home by 9:45 PM.  Loved walking around Washington, as always:  Capitol dominating all, the great public buildings. Napping on the train.
    Oh, and lunch in Chinatown!
